Wow, I can't believe it has been almost two months since I updated my blog. After passing my boards, I was offered a part-time position on the unit I've been working on for almost 18 months. It was wonderful that I didn't have to spend time searching and applying for every opening available. I really wanted to stay with this unit I started out on as I truly enjoy the other staff members there.
So, on March 29th, I was officially promoted to the position of RN level I!!!!! I put on my first set of navy blue scrubs on March 30th and went to work as a nurse. I was eased into the process with only one patient to provide meds and care for due to my assignment with the charge nurse. I was able to take my time and review meds before giving them to my patient. Remember, I have not provided nursing care since my clinical ended on December 2nd. I was, of course, very nervous too. Thankfully, my patient knew their own meds better than I did so they helped to educate me a little that day.
The following day I had four patients, some with quite a few meds while others with not too many. It was a good day with a great preceptor who I have been assigned to most of my days so far. I am now up to five patients that I am providing meds and care for and LOVING my job! I really do! I love learning while I am working and being able to help educate my patients while they are getting better.
I just finished my second week as a new nurse. It's been amazing so far! I really do love it! Next week I will be on the unit on Monday and then it's off to new nurse orientation. The hospital I work at starts most new employees off on the same date (if possible), so Monday is new employee orientation. I attended that class already (way back when I started, lol) so I will go right into the first of many new nurse classes. I was told there will be some things I will already know since I've been working on the unit, but, I am certain there will a LOT of information I will still need to know.
I spent my morning filling out the necessary information for my benefits package. Even though I am a part-time nurse, I am finally in a benefit eligible position. I was surprised at all the options available. Since we have been paying out of pocket for out health insurance this will be a small savings for the time being.
