Day One

Early summer 2010, I decided that I wanted to go to college.  I never went to college after high school, I didn't feel I was smart enough.  For years, while working at a small Christian school, I 'played' nurse since our school didn't have one.  More than once I was told that I 'should' be a nurse.  When I first started college I didn't know for sure if I could do the nursing program, it would take 'years'!!!  Well, I started one class, then another, then two in one semester and I was doing it!  I was going to college!  I was doing well at it while I continued to work during the day.  So fast forward to today . . .

Everything I've been working towards is finally coming true!  Today started the clinical portion of my education.  I have two years to go (as long as I can handle working and keeping up with clinical and class work.

Today, January 22nd, I met with my community group and we set out through the Claymont area to find what resources are available to someone who has been discharged from the hospital.

This afternoon was spent in lab.  I learned how to properly detect a persons blood pressure, their radial and brachial pulse, proper bandaging techniques, use of restraints (only with a Dr. order!), and some other very necessary medical asepsis techniques.

It was a great day.  I hope to update this frequently to let you know how things are going!

Not only will it be great watching your progress and hearing about what you learn, I think it will be inspirational for other people like you who are "on the fence" about starting school. Please make sure you announce when you post! Good luck! :)

  3. So...I don't get notified when you answer a post! Good to know!
Since I'm stopping by all the time I'll share the Scripture passage I post on other guestbooks, too.
    Know that I'm always praying!
Psalms 70:1, 4-5 Make haste, O God, to deliver me; make haste to help me, O LORD. (4-5) Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified. But I am poor and needy: make haste unto me, O God: thou art my help and my deliverer; O LORD, make no tarrying.

Colossians 3:15-16 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

  6. Playing "mama" tonight. Charissa's at her office party and will probably be out really late (with Edwin and Becky who works for Charissa) so Frank is spending the night. It's going to be interesting because he's got a cough so with the baby monitor I can hear every one. When the med wears off...well...I should head to bed while I have the chance!
Continuing to pray so very hard!
Ephesians 3:14-21 For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

  7. Lifting up prayers right now! Hope you have a great week!
Psalms 34:15, 17-19 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry...The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.

  8. So maybe an update tomorrow, huh? Looking forward to hearing all about it!
    Praying hard in Seattle!
Psalms 103:1-5 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle's.

  9. Lifting up prays right now!
Psalms 91:11-12, 14-15 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. (14-15) Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.
